Prithibhaya-Vedantsara Foundation, in collaboration with the Counselling Cell of DIET Jammu, is implementing a Mental Health Awareness & Emotional Wellbeing Pilot Program in selected Government Schools of Jammu District. The initiative focuses on creating safe and supportive school environments by promoting mental health awareness, emotional resilience, stress management, communication, and peer support.
The program includes student and teacher orientation sessions, peer educator development, teacher capacity building, baseline mental health surveys, and referral support wherever professional assistance is required. Teachers are sensitized to identify early signs of emotional distress, while selected students are trained as peer educators to encourage supportive and empathetic school communities.
The pilot is being implemented in five Government schools of Jammu, with DIET Jammu providing academic and technical support and the Foundation undertaking program planning, coordination, training, documentation, and impact assessment.
To develop a replicable, school-based model for mental health awareness and peer support, strengthen early identification of emotional concerns, reduce stigma, and build sustainable support systems within schools. The program follows informed consent, confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional referral principles.
